SOPHOMORE INSPIRE WEEK

Southwest

conservation corps

For Sophomore Inspire Week I painted a mural at Southwest Conservation Corps. They wanted some more color and design in the commons building downtown. So we created a design and painted it. I created the first design on photoshop then we taped it up. Even though this was my third choice for inspire week i still had a good time and I'm quite proud of the mural we made. It also helped with a job opportunity to work at the Southwest Conservation Corps.

I think we got off easily, we had minimal hard thinking work and we got to do something interesting without having a lot of work. Overall it was still an fun time.

Reflection

To be honest, I didn't have that high if hopes for this, it was my third choice and I would have rather done something else. Although once we actually started the project it wasn't so bad and i had fun. Once we finished everyone in the building be impressed and happy with the mural.

I'm not sure I really took away any classroom skills from this service project. I definitely had to be creative for this project, but I don't really think I took any skills. In terms of work though I think i did learn a fair amount about the southwest conservation corps and how they run. On the last day they told us about their organization runs. I am quite interested in doing their summer program for high schoolers, so i guess that counts.

Generally I'm not the best with time management, but this project was definitely different. I had pretty good time management, probably because I was interested and it was easy for me to stay motivated.  When I’m not motivated I tend to have an easier time focusing.

My YouScience results showed that my strengths were in creativity and Investigation. That connects really closely to painting so, that makes sense my why it was easy for me. I think the YouScience results were pretty accurate because painting and art come easy for me.

In terms of advice for incoming sophomores, I'd probably say pick something your interested in. That's pretty obvious, but if you’re not interested it’ll be hard to be motivated and stick with it. This wasn't my first choice, but i did end up enjoying it. so pick something you'll be interested in, not what your friends are doing.
